Brackettville

We rode into Bracketville on rough, bumpy, brain-busting chip-sealed roads.  Headed to the grocery store to buy cookies and make ourselves happy again.

A woman asks us where we’re headed, we say Jacksonville, FL and she looks at us with ‘the look’ we’re so familiar to now.  Two minutes later, she’s invited us to stay inside her house, give us showers, make us a steak dinner and take us on a tour of Fort Clark Springs (one of the camps set up during the civil war….Patton and MacArthur both visited often)

She whips us up steaks, asparagus, potatoes, lettuce salad, fruit salad and sweet Texas tea in what seemed seven minutes.

Luck again….she was a family/consumer sciences, aka home ec, teacher for the high school.  Yolanda rocks.  She sowed up Tim’s ripped bike shorts, let us do laundry.  We met her amazing house of kids and had a night of it.   THIS IS WHAT TEXAS IS ABOUT!
