Cubby Bear and Goosey

Ever wonder why someone would put fake animals on their bike when doing a cross-country bike tour?  Especially when every ounce counts….Time to introduce to you Tim’s animal friends who are along this ride with us!

Tim's backseat driver

Goosey rides on the back of Tim’s bike.  Goosey is a college-link to friends from the past.  He gets sent around to friends that are going on big trips.  He’s been all around the world and most recently he’s been with Tim on the Appliachian trail, the Long Trail, skiing in Colorado and now here.

Cubby bear is recent acquirement.  He rides on the front of Tim’s bike.  Tim’s family are avid Chicago Cubs fans.  Though this is actually a monkey, Tim calls it a bear.  Tim’s been known to carry monkeys on his back while he does extended hikes (six months long.)  His collection:  Super Funk Monk Sr (who’s retired,)  Super Funk Monk Jr (who hitchhiked to France for a French maid) and now, Cubby bear.

  1. Would love to know the other items you’re riding with (clothes: long sleeve? short sleeve? how many shirts/shorts??) What brand/model are your panniers and what do you like/dislike about them so far?

My hugest question to you of the moment is, what’s your average daily mileage? (I know it can vary greatly… but just on average, what would you say?)

    Keep up the good stuff!

  2. Liz who works with your mom says:

Thanks for the blog post about Tim’s “friends”, Hailee! Have a safe trip!

  3. Keychain says:

As a friend of Tim’s from the AT, i can attest to his affection for animals of the stuffed variety – glad to see Goosey is still out and about. Following your trip with envy!
