Zion National Park 2011

View from Angels Landing

Zion is magical.  If you have ever wanted to go to a National Park…put Zion on your list.  You won’t be disappointed by the views, the enormity of the sheer cliffs or the grandness of the canyon itself.

Down below you can see the Virgin River

The Narrows~!

Hiking the Narrows means hiking in the river for most of the time...boots and all

The Narrows is a 14 mile hike, 60% being ‘in-water’ hiking.  Through the canyon, surounded by sheer, brilliant red, sandstone walls of 200o ft high.  The Virgin River is cool, clear, rocky and at times, chest deep!

The hike up to the Subway

Inside the Subway channel

The ‘Subway’ is a back country hike where they warn hikers over and over “don’t forget where you’re going to come back up the canyon wall, hikers get lost all of the time. Take lots of water.  Don’t jump over rocks, that’s how legs get broken.  Do you know where you’re going?”  We were a little over-prepared for this hike, but that doesn’t matter now.  It was a fantastic treat to see what the Subway was all about.  The invigorating rush of cold water had us screaming as we jumped and swam from pool to pool until we made it to the waterfall.  A special place indeed!
