Hiking Mt. of the Holy Cross

Went on a pretty sweet hike awhile back with two of my favorite ladies from Colorado.   Holy Cross is a 14,000ft mountain located in the back yard of Kari and Jakes house (the place I like to call home!)

The sun was rising as we were hiking up Half Moon Pass

What makes hiking Holy Cross in a day intense?  Well, you hike up from Half Moon pass to the ridge of Notch Mtn, a 13,000+ft mtn, and from here you can see the summit…and then you descend about 1,000ft to cross over Cross Creek.  When climbing a 14’er, the last thing a person wants to do is descend.  But here, on Holy Cross, you don’t have a choice.  Climb, descend and then climb again.  Most of the way, looking at the summit.  Drawing it nearer to you with every step.

Jen and Kari with snow as the summit towers over us.

Hikin the ridgeline looking up at the summit

Another sweet view that last forever amidst the smokey air

View of Mt of the Holy Cross from Half Moon Pass.

There’s nothing like the view from up above!  Spectacular to say the least.
